So of what's been posted here thus far, how much of it is true? Well, the names are. Although Marie Gervaise is also often listed as Marie Herve, and on the ship's manifest is listed as Herve.
That's another true thing: La Ville d'Archangel did, in fact, sail from St.-Malo to New Orleans in 1785, with a grounding in Balize. And yes, they really had run out of food.
Now whether or not Angelique died during the crossing--well, there aren't any church records of her in Louisiana. So we really don't know what happened to her. Although I don't know if the manifest of La Ville d'Archangel would show whether she disembarked or not; I don't have a copy of it. I do know there were a number of deaths on board, though.
The descriptions of my "characters" (and also ancestors) have been entirely created from thin air and imagination. I've seen no diaries or other records to give me any hints as to how they may have acted, nor have I seen any pictures or paintings of any of them. I don't think anything like that exists, really.
